Landfill Florida Cell Construction Completed Ahead of Schedule

Landfill Florida Cell construction in Northeast Florida has officially been completed by COMANCO crews after months of coordinated earthwork, geosynthetic liner installation, and protective cover placement. This new 16-acre landfill expansion will provide additional waste capacity while helping protect surrounding groundwater supplies through advanced environmental containment systems.

The successful completion of this Landfill Florida Cell project demonstrates COMANCO’s continued commitment to Safety, Quality, and Service on large-scale environmental construction projects throughout the Southeast.

Advanced Geosynthetic Systems Installed for Landfill Florida Cell

The newly completed Landfill Florida Cell required the installation of a complex four-layer liner system designed to prevent leachate migration and support long-term environmental protection.

Project quantities included:

  • 1,502,386 square feet of 60mil HDPE white textured geomembrane
  • 1,488,531 square feet of 330mil double-sided geocomposite
  • 157,716 square feet of nonwoven geotextile
  • 2,422 linear feet of tie-in extrusion welding
  • 72,587 cubic yards of protective cover material

After completing the liner installation process, crews imported and placed a two-foot protective soil cover over the geosynthetic materials to protect the system from damage and prepare the landfill cell for operation.

Coordination and Efficiency Drive Project Success

Multiple liner and earthwork crews worked together throughout the duration of the Landfill Florida Cell project while coordinating schedules around changing Florida weather conditions.

More than 2,400 import trucks delivered protective cover material needed for the project. Careful planning and communication between field crews helped maintain productivity while ensuring safe operations across the active construction site.

Despite heavy trucking activity and challenging weather patterns, COMANCO crews completed the project ahead of schedule while maintaining strict quality control standards throughout every phase of construction.

Quality Control Remained a Top Priority

Quality assurance played a major role in the successful completion of this Landfill Florida Cell project. COMANCO crews achieved a 99.3% passing rate across 139 destructive tests performed during liner installation operations.

Destructive testing is a critical part of geosynthetic liner construction because it helps verify seam integrity and confirms that the containment system meets project specifications and environmental standards.

Projects like this highlight the importance of experienced crews, proper installation procedures, and continuous quality monitoring during landfill construction.

COMANCO continues to provide industry-leading geosynthetic installation, earthwork, and environmental construction services across the United States.
