COMANCO Prioritizes Safety and Development

Investing in employee growth and safety is a top priority for COMANCO. Throughout October, team members from various departments joined in several hands-on and classroom training sessions. These programs were designed to strengthen skills, promote safety, and encourage professional development. They also demonstrate COMANCO’s dedication to helping employees gain the knowledge and confidence needed to work safely and efficiently.

COMANCO partnered with Ring Power to provide a two-day loader training for nine employees. Jose Valdez, a Spanish-speaking instructor and new member of the Ring Power team, led the session. The training combined hands-on experience with presentations covering maintenance, inspections, machine longevity, and maneuvering techniques. A key focus was to ensure every participant felt confident and comfortable operating the equipment. Having a bilingual instructor allowed our Spanish-speaking employees to fully engage with the material. This improved comprehension, teamwork, and communication across the crew.

At COMANCO headquarters in Plant City, FL, ten employees attended Extended Reach Truck Training in our Fleet Yard. Led by Patrick Knisel from CAT Ring Power, the session featured engaging presentations, written tests, and hands-on practice. Each activity focused on helping employees operate equipment safely and efficiently. Participants learned how to perform pre-operation checks, monitor fluid levels, inspect tires and forks, and identify potential hazards before use. During the practical session, operators practiced lifting, extending, retracting, and stacking loads while maintaining control and visibility.

Twelve COMANCO employees took part in Water Emergency Training at Off the Wall Adventures and Outfitters. Laborers, liner technicians, operators, leadmen, and superintendents attended the session led by Captain Justin and retired fire and police rescuers. They taught participants how to recognize water hazards, use rescue tools, perform self-rescue, and respond effectively during emergencies. The eight-hour hands-on course included classroom instruction and in-water exercises to build confidence and improve situational awareness.

Eight employees participated in the IAGI Certified Welding Technician (CWT) certification process, proctored by Maya Innis from Leister Technologies. For many, this was their first time pursuing the certification, and they approached it with enthusiasm and professionalism. The training began with a presentation on certification requirements, safety procedures, and testing expectations. A Job Hazard Analysis ensured compliance with COMANCO standards. Liner and QA/QC technicians demonstrated welding techniques, seam testing, and proper equipment handling under expert guidance. The session strengthened their precision, safety awareness, and technical expertise.

From equipment operation to specialized certifications, these October training sessions reflect COMANCO’s dedication to building a knowledgeable and confident workforce.
