ACMS Update: Protective Cover, Trench Gravel and More

by

The cell construction at ACMS Class I Landfill is progressing forward at a rapid pace.  Out of the five geosynthetic layers being installed, the GCL, primary and secondary 60-mil geomembranes and secondary geocomposite have been completely deployed with roughly 70% of the primary geocomposite left to go down.  Where the primary geocomposite has been installed, protective cover sand has begun being placed.  A minimum 24” thickness of this material must be placed in order to prevent damage to the geosynthetics.  This material is being hauled in from a pre-approved source adjacent to the site and will require nearly 100,000 cubic yards to fill both cells to the required depth.  The first layer of the leachate trench gravel has been installed in both cells as well.  Additional gravel will be placed once the HDPE leachate collection pipe is installed.  In addition, 2 of the 6 leachate collection risers have been installed at the low end of the cells.  Below are photos highlighting the progress.
