Applications of Power

Project Spotlight
Seminole Generating Station
Putnam County, Fl

COMANCO was contracted by Seminole Electric Cooperative, Inc (SECI) to expand and modify their existing landfill at the Seminole Generating Station in Putman County. The project consisted of the construction of an 18 acre double lined landfill on top of the existing disposal stack. The existing disposal stack, which had been in operation for several years, was already at an elevation of 181 msl when construction of the new facility began this year. Although located on top of the existing stack, construction details for this new landfill were fairly typical in design.

Power

With worldwide power demand expected to rise by 60% over the next 20 years, the need for efficient and environmentally considerate production facilities is immediate. The current U.S. capacity is produced by various technologies and source fuels such as petroleum, natural gas, hydroelectric, nuclear and other renewable sources; but the majority is produced by electromechanical generators, driven by the processing and burning of coal – 49% in fact. Fossil-fuel power (FFP) stations burn coal, natural gas and petroleum (oil) to produce electricity and all require that water and other unintended byproducts be properly stored and managed. That is where COMANCO comes in.

Power generating plants, in addition to producing electricity, generate byproducts such as fly-ash, bottom-ash, slag, gypsum and effluent water. In order to maximize the potential benefits of these products and properly contain any possible threat to the environment, properly designed waste management and material handling systems must be constructed. State of the art process piping and geosynthetic liners are currently the most cost effective solution. COMANCO has successfully completed numerous projects for power generation clients throughout the United States.
