COMANCO Gets Started at ACMS Class I Landfill

by

The COMANCO team kicked-off construction in a new 30 acre landfill in Sumterville, FL on Monday, 5/21/12.  The landfill cell portion of work consists of installing a 5 layer geosynthetic liner system for two subcells.  This system will be deployed onto a prepared sub-grade in the following sequence:

1)      geosynthetic clay liner (GCL)

2)      secondary 60-mil HDPE geomembrane

3)      secondary geocomposite

4)      primary 60-mil HDPE geomembrane

5)      primary geocomposite

This will all be covered with 2’ of protective cover soil with the non-active portion being covered by a 20-mil HDPE white rain tarp when complete.  The two subcells will each contain a leachate collection trench consisting of HDPE pipe wrapped in quartz gravel and geotextile.

Additional items in COMANCO’s scope of work are:

Constructing two leachate removal sump, piping and concrete pad areas,

Running approximately 2,900 LF of 6” HDPE leachate forcemain,

Building a leachate storage and truck loading area,

Supplying and installing six new 44,000-gallon FRP leachate storage tanks.

COMANCO is contracted with ACMS, Inc. to perform this work and the project is scheduled to finish in late 2012.  Below are photos of the beginning phases of GCL and geomembrane deployment.
